Colin Brown appointed as new Chair of LandAid’s Eastern Board

Colin Brown, Cambridge-based Partner and Head of Planning & Development at national property consultancy Carter Jonas, has been appointed Chair of the Eastern Regional Board for LandAid.

Sophie Thornley, Partner at gunnercooke LLP will also be stepping up as Vice Chair to support Colin in his role.

LandAid’s regional boards bring together senior figures from across the property and real estate industry to support fundraising, partnerships and local engagement.  As Chair of the Eastern Board, Colin will help galvanize support for local projects and raise awareness of the growing challenge of youth homelessness across the region.

LandAid also works nationally to fund frontline charities that provide safe accommodation within a supportive environment for young people who are experiencing homelessness.

Colin brings over 30 years of experience in planning consultancy, having advised a wide range of private, institutional and developer clients on significant projects. In addition to his professional role, he is actively involved in the local built environment community, is a past Chairman of the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry, and he is Chairman of the Dining Rights Committee at the Hawks’ Club.

Colin succeeds Nicholas Bewes, CEO, Howard Group, who led the formation of the Eastern Regional Board some six years ago and has been Chair over that time.

It has been a privilege to serve on the Board for the past six years and I warmly congratulate Colin on his appointment - an excellent choice given his experience and knowledge of the property sector. I am extremely grateful to my fellow Board members for their passion and commitment, which has enabled real progress across East Anglia, raising awareness of the challenges faced by many young people and mobilising the property community into action. I look forward to continuing to support Colin, the Board, and the wider LandAid mission going forward.
Nicholas Bewes, CEO, Howard Group

Colin’s appointment comes at a time of increasing concern over youth homelessness.

In the past year, more than 118,000 young people in the UK approached their local authority for support due to homelessness or the risk of becoming homeless. In the East of England, nearly 12,000 young people were affected.

It’s an honour to take on this role and continue the excellent work Nicholas has led. LandAid is a cause that resonates deeply across our industry, and I’m proud to be part of an organisation that brings the property sector together to tackle youth homelessness. Sophie, I, and the rest of the Regional Board are committed to building on the Eastern Region’s strong track record and ensuring we continue to make a meaningful contribution to LandAid’s national impact.
