Join Team Helical and take on the LandAid Trek this September!

London property investment and development company Helical, discuss why they’re taking on the first ever LandAid Trek as a team, and all-importantly why you should join them on this challenge in September.

The inaugural LandAid Trek will take place 13-15 September 2024. LandAid, alongside Helical, are calling on the property and built environment industry to get involved.

You’ll be joining individuals and teams already signed up (including Trident, Oxford Properties and more!) to take on the 27km challenge across the Black Mountains in Wales. For those unable to join in-person a virtual trek option is also available.

Sign up now and lace up your hiking boots in support of young people across the UK without a place to call home.

Team Helical - we're delighted to have you on board and supporting this brand-new challenge in our event’s calendar!

We’d love to hear a little bit about Helical as an organisation and their place in the property/built environment industry.

Helical specialises in developing the highest quality office buildings in Central London. We seek to provide the most attractive and sustainable workplaces with market leading tenant amenities and the most up to date building technologies.

Our people are intrinsic to delivering the ambitions of the business and driving long-term growth.

We aim to promote a culture that encourages our talented and knowledgeable team to feel valued and thrive.

Our culture is defined through our set of values which embody the way that we work; Integrity, Excellence, Collaboration, Creativity and Sustainability.

Can you describe Helical’s involvement with LandAid to date?

Helical has supported LandAid since its origins and is proud to have participated in countless fundraising initiatives over that time.

In total Helical has raised and donated almost £1m to LandAid with activities including running, stepping, cycling, singing, quizzing, bingo’ing, climbing, pedalling, dancing, sponsoring and bidding to name but a few.

We have had a huge amount of fun along the way and have loved being part of LandAid’s journey.

What are Helical’s key motivations for taking part in the LandAid Trek?

Our primary motivation is to support LandAid’s mission to end youth homelessness and to raise funds for the numerous charities supported by LandAid who are making a difference to young people’s lives every day across the UK.

Representing Helical in the LandAid Trek are eight members of staff from the Property, Finance and Support teams – uniting together under the team name ‘The Walkahelics’. We are also grateful for the chance to enter as a team, complete a physical challenge (we know it will be a challenge!) and to enjoy a beautiful part of the UK countryside

As we touched on, this is LandAid’s first Trek challenge – however with the hybrid offering of both a physical and virtual trek option, it means that the industry can take part from wherever they are (if they are unable to travel, are working abroad, or even want to get the whole family involved!).

What words of encouragement would you give to any of Helical’s industry peers thinking about taking part?

Helical are really excited to be part of LandAid’s first ever Trek and whilst we are taking part as a physical team it is great that everyone can support from anywhere and from any team – be that with family, pets or friends.

We would say to get involved in whatever way you can knowing you are supporting LandAid’s valuable work whilst also getting active, and out and about!

If you are unable to participate, please consider supporting those taking part by donating what you can or looking at organisation sponsorship opportunities.

Has Team Helical ever taken on a Trek challenge, or similar before?

In 2018 a team from Helical organised a trek to Morocco to climb the Atlas Mountains, scaling Mount Toubkal’s peak of 4,167m in support of LandAid and the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. Three of that team have joined The Walkahelics and so we will be calling on their experience and stories to keep us going through any tough parts!

How are the team planning to fit training into your busy schedules?

Our training regime comes in many forms including taking stairs rather than lifts, walking part of the commute rather than using transport, spending weekends taking extended walks with family, friends and lucky dogs, and refreshing some of the training undertaken before – (we all participated in the LandAid 10K a couple of years ago!).

And any training tips to share in the round?

We’re investing in good footwear and are keeping it fun as we know that on the day the atmosphere and support from other individuals and teams will be hugely encouraging, and as a team, The Walkahelics will complete the challenge together.

Thank you Team Helical, we couldn’t agree more! #TogetherWeCan
