LandAid is awarding four donations of £1,000 to charities to deliver projects to improve the lives of the young people they support.
The fourth award we’re publicising is a donation to the Cardinal Hume Centre, to enable them to organise a go-karting trip for the young people living in their hostel.
Giuseppe Mallardo, Support and Advocacy Key Worker at Cardinal Hume Centre, said: ‘The young people have frequently asked if they can go on a go-karting trip but most of our resources are focused on making sure they have a safe place to live and 24 hour support, which doesn’t leave much for outings like this. We are thrilled that LandAid has funded this outing and we are planning it for the half term when the young people are off college.
“It is so important that we give the young people the chance to enjoy fun social activities. Many of the young people have faced difficulties – the chance to forget about the challenges they are experiencing and to socialise together is key to helping them move forward. It is just wonderful when we go on these outings and see the look on a young person’s face as they enjoy themselves and spend time with their peers and are just regular teenagers having fun.
Following past outings for the Centre’s young people, they commented that they enjoyed the hostel residents going together and making new friends’.
The Cardinal Hume Centre supports young people who have faced family breakdown, left social care, experienced trauma and child refugees escaping war and persecution.
