Meet the Team – Kieran Martin

As part of our Meet the Team series, we’re shining a light on the people behind LandAid’s mission to end youth homelessness.

This month, we spoke to Kieran Martin, who’s been at LandAid for just over 6 months. As a National Partnership’s Manager, Kieran builds partnership across the property industry, helping them play a role in tackling youth homelessness.

What brought you to LandAid in the first place?

I’ve previously worked for two amazing homeless charities, including Launchpad Reading and Glass Door Homeless Charity, and in between those roles I spent time working in CSR for a professional services company. So when the opportunity at LandAid came up, it felt like the perfect fit — combining my passion for tackling homelessness with my experience in corporate engagement. It’s incredibly rewarding to be in a role that brings those two worlds together for such an important cause.

What’s your role, how do you help end youth homelessness?

I work to build partnerships with organisations across the property industry, helping them play an active role in tackling youth homelessness. My focus is on creating collaborations that not only fund and support LandAid’s mission but also help partners achieve their ESG, social value, CSR, and wider business goals.

What’s one project or moment that made you proud to work at LandAid?

Being involved in Race for LandAid was a real highlight. We managed to galvanise the property industry to come together on the hottest day of the year — 33°C! — to run and raise vital funds for our charity partners. Hearing directly from a young person who had been supported by one of those partners afterwards was an incredible reminder of why we do what we do and the real impact our work can have.

What’s one challenge LandAid faces in this work that you think more people should know about?

One of our biggest challenges is that LandAid is completely voluntarily funded — we rely solely on the generosity of the property industry, which we’re incredibly grateful for. However, with youth homelessness rising by 61% in the past five years, the demand for our support is growing faster than we can meet it.

Continued and increased support from across the property industry is so vital to helping us reach every young person who needs a safe place to call home.

What’s one thing you wish people in the property sector understood about our mission?

I wish more people understood just how vital early intervention is in breaking the cycle of homelessness. Once someone becomes homeless, they’re likely to experience it up to five more times in their life. By supporting young people early, we can stop that cycle before it starts and help prevent homelessness for generations to come.
