Mike Slade, OBE: ‘We can point to LandAid House and say this is what property is doing’

Last week LandAid’s President, Mike Slade, received an OBE for services to LandAid. This included a £1million donation he made to the LandAid House appeal, which was revealed yesterday.

Mike Slade, OBE and President of LandAid said: ‘LandAid House is the kind of big project we can just point to, and it needed that sort of input to make it happen. It was an obvious one, and very important to me. We’ve topped it out and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished result.”

Opening in Autumn 2019, LandAid House will provide 146 bedrooms for young people at risk of becoming homeless, as well as advice on housing, education, training and well-being. The hostel is owned and run by the impressive City YMCA, London, a charity that’s supported well-over 30,000 isolated and hosmeless young people since it was first set up over 40 years ag

Mike’s incredibly generous contribution to the project will ensure that vulnerable young people in London will have a safe, secure and affordable place to stay for years to come.

Paul Morrish, Chief Executive at LandAid, said: ‘I’m delighted to see Mike getting the recognition he deserves for what has been an astonishing contribution to LandAid. His staggering generosity in his donation to LandAid House is the tip of the iceberg in terms of his work for us, and his tireless energy in improving LandAid since its humble beginnings was invaluable in shaping the charity we see today.

“Mike’s OBE is incredibly well-deserved, and I speak for everyone at LandAid when I express my hope that he stays involved in the charity for many more years to come.’
