Records smashed and fundraising heights hit at LandAid summer run

On a beautiful summer evening, over 550 professionals from the property and construction sectors led the charge for disadvantaged children and young people at the LandAid 10K Summer Run sponsored by GVA.

Records tumbled and new fundraising heights were hit as competitive runners from across the UK commercial property industry assembled at Regent’s Park with the aim of hitting a new personal best and raising over £55,000 for LandAid’s projects.

Christopher Busaileh from Speechly Bircham was the overall fastest male runner, with a white-hot time of 33 mins 43secs – the fastest time ever run at a LandAid event! The overall fastest female was Dwynwen Lewis from Trowers and Hamlins, with another incredible time of 40mins 13secs.

This year’s fastest male over 40 was taken by Tim Greenland of BA Pension Fund (and winner of last year’s summer run over a 5k distance), with a time of 38mins 20secs. Fastest female in the same category was Jennifer Neal of Derwent London, with another stunning time of 42mins and 43secs.

The title of fastest team was taken by British Land, with teams from Palmer Capital and Evans Randall hot on their heels. Special plaudits also go to LandAid Trustee Suzanne Avery, who raised over £10,000 for LandAid, and Rehan Khawaja and Edward Swindells of MS Auctions, who completed the course in a wheelchair.

Rob Bould, CEO of headline sponsor GVA and LandAid Trustee, said: ‘It’s fantastic to see so many people from the property and construction industries getting active to support disadvantaged children and young people at the LandAid summer run. LandAid do a wonderful job, and GVA are delighted to be able to support this event and help the charity hit its fundraising target.’

Joanna Averley, LandAid Chief Executive, said: ‘I’m always overwhelmed by the industry’s support for LandAid, and this year’s summer run was no exception. We estimate that the combined distance run by our supporters today would have taken us from London to New Delhi – all in the name of uniting to help disadvantaged young people. That is an amazing feat.

She added: “A huge thanks to our headline sponsors GVA, our trophy sponsors and everyone who took part for helping make this our most successful summer run to date. Together, we make a bigger difference.’

All donations from the run will go towards LandAid projects such as the Avenues Youth Project in nearby Queens Park, which provides after-school and holiday activities for one of the most deprived wards of Westminster, and refurbishing and outfitting a new creative therapy centre for Coram, a new LandAid project.

After the run, runners gathered with friends, family and other LandAid supporters, gathered in front of the Hub to congratulate one another, watch the awards ceremony and enjoy drinks in the late evening sun.
