Sally Fraser, Senior Events Officer talks all things LandAid Trek

Sally Fraser, Senior Events Officer, talks through the impact and inspiration behind the property industry’s biggest hiking challenge of the year, the LandAid Trek.

My name is Sally Fraser and I am the Senior Events  Officer at LandAid. As part of my role I have the exciting job of looking after our yearly challenge, the LandAid Trek. This is something that I am both personally and professionally passionate about.

Given we are now in the second year of the event, I wanted to take time to reflect on it’s success and how we are looking to grow it further to inspire you to get involved this summer.
The best bit? Event day. Seeing it all come together, people laughing, connecting, pushing themselves and hearing directly from our young beneficiaries and the charities we support. That’s the moment it all clicks and you remember exactly why we do this.

What inspired the idea behind The LandAid Trek?

What inspired the idea behind The LandAid Trek?

The idea came from our Events Manager James who’d organised a similar trek as an alternative way of fundraising. He said it was one of the most rewarding events he’d run with a great atmosphere, great challenge. We thought it was a perfect fit for the property industry: something a bit different from the usual networking events, a chance to connect outside of the boardroom, and a real challenge for a competitive and driven industry. Plus, who doesn’t love the idea of switching off from emails and spending a day in the hills for a good cause?

What makes The LandAid Trek different from other fundraising events?

It’s not just another charity dinner or fun run. It’s a proper challenge. You’re out in the fresh air, pushing yourself, working as a team, and all the while raising money for young people experiencing homelessness. It’s a chance to do something active, purposeful, and genuinely memorable — and you’ll meet some fantastic people along the way.

What’s your favourite part of organising the Trek?

There are so many bits I love. Planning the routes is always exciting – finding beautiful, challenging trails in amazing parts of the UK. Then there’s all the creative stuff: the merch, the branding, the goodie bags, working with partners to make the whole experience feel special. But the best bit? Event day. Seeing it all come together, people laughing, connecting, pushing themselves and hearing directly from our young beneficiaries and the charities we support. That’s the moment it all clicks and you remember exactly why we do this.

Why should people from the property industry sign up?

Why should people from the property industry sign up?

The LandAid Trek is a brilliant way to connect with others in the property industry in a completely different setting away from the usual meetings and networking events. It’s a rewarding personal challenge that also gives you the chance to show your commitment to tackling youth homelessness. By taking part, you’re not only supporting a great cause, but also showing leadership and social responsibility in your sector. Whether you join us in the stunning Peak District or organise your own company trek closer to home, it’s a chance to do something meaningful, memorable, and impactful — and be part of a powerful movement of people across the property world making a real difference

How does this event make a difference to young people experiencing homelessness?

We have outlined an ambitious strategy that by 2029 we will positively support 10,000 young people and have created at least £150 million in social value. We will help around 5,500 young people into accommodation. We expect to help fund around 3,000 bedspaces. By joining the Trek, you are directly helping us achieve this target and support these young through your fundraising and spreading awareness of our cause.

Any top tips for someone considering signing up?

  • Get a team together. It’s more fun with friends or colleagues!
  • Start your fundraising early as little and often works wonders.
  • Don’t worry if you’re not a seasoned hiker, we’ll support you all the way.
  • Make sure you’ve got comfy boots and pack snacks!
  • Most importantly, remember why you’re doing it. Every mile helps change a life.
