Table cards saying 'thanks a million'

The StreetSmart campaign in partnership with LandAid raises a million to tackle homelessness

This week, chefs, restauranteurs and supporters gathered at ROE in Canary Wharf to acknowledge the achievements of the charity StreetSmart. Guests were the first to hear how much was raised in total, which restaurants received awards for their efforts and how LandAid have played a significant part in the campaign’s success.
The StreetSmart campaign raises funds to tackle homelessness by collecting donations from diners at leading restaurants during the busy build up to Christmas.
This time the initiative raised a staggering £1,027,000 all from £1 per table donations at over 600 restaurants that took part.

Restaurants included St John, Core by Clare Smyth, The Grill at The Dorchester and Moor Hall in Lancs, who were also joined by the eateries in Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason. Restaurant Groups like Ottolenghi, Bancone and Brother Marcus were key supporters of the campaign, each contributing  tens of thousands of pounds to the important cause.

I've been luckily enough to partner with StreetSmart for the past 4 years and have seen first hand how a small donation can make a massive difference for the people in our community most in need. It's a chance to give back and it reminds us all what true hospitality really means.

LandAid covers all campaign costs and plays a vital role in distributing funds to ensure that 100% of donations go directly to local projects helping those in greatest need.

Every penny raised in each city stays local, supporting frontline projects that provide sustainable solutions to homelessness – with a strong focus on young people aged 16–25. The urgency of this work continues to grow in the past year alone, there’s been a 10% rise in the number of young people facing homelessness, bringing the total to a staggering 118,000.

Paul Morrish, Chief Executive at LandAid, was delighted with the result: “The generosity of diners and the commitment of the hospitality sector is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when communities come together with purpose. At LandAid, we’re proud to stand alongside StreetSmart, ensuring that every pound raised helps transform the lives of young people facing homelessness – offering them hope, dignity and a brighter future.”

Since its launch in 1998, pioneering fundraising initiative StreetSmart has raised over £15 million to support people experiencing homelessness. Now active in 22 regions across the UK, the campaign saw record-breaking success this year in both Bristol and Newcastle.

It is such an incredible organisation achieving maximum impact. Due to the way it works, with the money going to multiple reputable projects across the UK, StreetSmart tackles homelessness at its roots and at a time when it is needed most.
