What do they need help with?
The Well CIC is a Community Interest Company that has been established with the goal of providing affordable, sustainable housing within a nature-based, regenerative community. Their primary focus is to support young people transitioning out of care, alongside older individuals who are at risk of isolation. Formed in January 2024, The Well is already working with partners like 1625 Independent People and the Bristol Housing Festival to realise its vision.
The Well is in the process of acquiring Blackmoor Farm, a property currently on the open market. Pre-application planning advice has already been obtained for converting the existing farmhouse and outbuildings into residential units. The development plans include dividing the farmhouse into two three-bedroom homes, converting one of the larger barns into a four-bedroom home, and retaining the land for ecological management.
The property will be financed via a combination of grants, loans, cash deposits, and bonds. The aim is to create affordable rental homes and shared ownership properties for young people leaving care, with an emphasis on long-term community benefits. The site will also include a community orchard, space for small-scale agriculture, and green space for therapeutic use.
Once the site is mortgageable, and with an option agreement in place, they will be seeking assistance with site surveys, to ensure a smooth planning application process.
