What do they need help with?

The Hive Church, a registered charity, has recently been gifted the freehold of the Broad Street Green Chapel and its associated car park by The Congregational Federation. This generous transfer recognises the important role The Hive Church plays in supporting the local community. The Congregational Federation has appointed a solicitor to act on its behalf, and The Hive Church now requires its own legal representative to complete the transfer.

The church is seeking a solicitor willing to offer pro bono or subsidised legal assistance for this process. While the transfer is expected to be a relatively simple matter, covering the legal costs for both parties places a significant financial strain on the charity. Every pound spent on legal fees reduces the funding available for essential community services — from parent and toddler groups to mental health support sessions.

Located in Heybridge, the church’s new premises sit beside a major new housing development of 280 homes, bringing increased demand for the charity’s work. The planned Hive Hub community centre will further extend the organisation’s reach, offering a broad range of educational, wellbeing, and social initiatives to support local people. Securing the freehold is a key step in this long-term vision, ensuring The Hive Church’s presence and impact for years to come.

About the organisation

The Hive Church (Registered Charity No. 1110592) has served the communities of Maldon and Heybridge since 2005. The charity provides spiritual, practical, and emotional support to people of all ages and backgrounds, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. Its services include family and children’s activities, mental health and wellbeing programmes, educational and skills-based workshops, and social initiatives that bring the community together.

With the recent relocation to Broad Street Green Chapel, The Hive Church is preparing to launch The Hive Hub — a purpose-built community centre designed to meet growing local need, particularly in light of a new housing development nearby. The charity is a trusted and vital part of local life, committed to building connection, resilience, and hope.
