What do they need help with?
Carlisle Key is seeking professional pro bono support to strengthen their communications and marketing activity, with the ultimate aim of preventing youth homelessness across Cumbria.
They are looking for the following expert input with:
Website redevelopment – Their current website is over 10 years old and no longer reflects the breadth or accessibility of their services. They are seeking support to develop a new, mobile-friendly website (approx. 8–10 pages), with clear navigation, integrated donation functionality, and content tailored to young people, partners, and funders. This updated site will act as a vital resource for young people in crisis, as well as a platform to demonstrate the charity’s impact.
The charity already has a strong reputation locally and trusted relationships with schools, agencies, and health providers. However, improving their communications will allow them to reach more young people before crisis hits, and to engage new supporters and donors who can help sustain their vital work.
The pro bono support will help Carlisle Key increase its visibility, grow its fundraising potential, and ultimately prevent more young people from becoming homeless.

About the organisation
Carlisle Key is a youth homelessness charity based in Carlisle, serving young people aged 16–25 across Cumbria. Founded in 1997 and registered as a charity in 2003, the organisation was created in response to the growing need for crisis support for young people at risk of homelessness.
Their drop-in centre provides essentials like food parcels and toiletries, as well as practical and emotional support including counselling, IT access, and help with applications. In addition, Carlisle Key offers supported housing for 11 young people, helping them to build skills and confidence to move towards independence.
In 2023 alone, the charity supported 198 young people through their drop-in service and delivered 387 positive mental health outcomes. Their work directly addresses the rising levels of youth homelessness in the North West, providing young people with safe spaces, trusted relationships, and real pathways forward.
