What do they need help with?

Rock Trust is expanding its housing provision and requires pro bono support to deliver fit-out, decoration and furnishing works across a growing portfolio of properties.

The organisation is currently in the process of purchasing five new flats in Edinburgh to house young people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. Due to budget constraints, these properties are expected to be relatively small and may require improvement works before they are suitable for occupation. This is likely to include painting, flooring installation, and general repairs to walls, doors, floors and kitchen units.

In parallel, Rock Trust is launching a new Empty Homes Project in partnership with Fife Council. Through this initiative, long-term empty properties will be brought back into use to provide safe, affordable homes for young people. These homes are expected to require significant refurbishment, as many will have been vacant and neglected for extended periods. Rock Trust will lead on full renovation and fit-out before homes are occupied.

Across both new and existing properties, there is also a need for full furnishing. This includes furniture, soft furnishings and, where required, kitchens, bathrooms and white goods.

In addition to these projects, Rock Trust manages properties across Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth and Livingston. Due to the nature of supported housing, void periods can arise at short notice and often require intensive redecoration and refurnishing to prepare homes for new residents.

Rock Trust is seeking partners who can provide:

  • Painting and decoration services
  • Flooring installation and minor repair works
  • Support with property refurbishment and fit-out
  • Furniture and furnishing donations (including white goods)
  • Ongoing or responsive support for void property turnaround

Flexible support is welcomed, whether as one-off contributions to specific projects or as part of longer-term partnerships.

This support will ensure that young people moving into Rock Trust properties have access to safe, comfortable and welcoming homes. It will also reduce operational costs, enabling more resources to be directed towards frontline support services.

Timeline

Support is ideally required by July 2026.

About the organisation

Rock Trust is Scotland’s leading youth homelessness charity, working to ensure that no young person is without a safe place to call home. The organisation supports young people aged 16–25 to avoid, resolve and move on from homelessness, helping them build the skills, confidence and stability needed for adulthood.

In 2023–24, Rock Trust supported 1,129 young people across eight local authority areas. Their services include housing support, counselling, employability programmes and access to safe accommodation through initiatives such as Youth Housing Hubs and Housing First for Youth.

Youth homelessness remains a critical issue in Scotland, with around 7,500 young people presenting as homeless each year—around 25% of all applications. Many more remain hidden, living in unsafe or unstable conditions. Rock Trust works at both a service delivery and national policy level, influencing systems and standards to create long-term change and ensure no young person is left behind.
