Luminary Bakery has been offered the opportunity to open a new bakery and café within Google’s King’s Cross development in London.
The project would expand Luminary’s social enterprise operations and create further employment, training and progression opportunities for women who have experienced gender-based violence, homelessness, poverty and other forms of disadvantage. It would also generate additional trading income to support the charity’s wider work.
Initial planning, financial modelling and stakeholder engagement are already underway. Luminary is now looking for pro bono support from an experienced development, construction or fit-out professional who can act as a trusted adviser as the project moves from planning towards delivery.
Support could include reviewing project plans, identifying key delivery risks and milestones, advising on contractor engagement, and providing guidance around fit-out and implementation.
The proposed site is within the King’s Cross development. Luminary has detailed project information, layouts and supporting documentation available to share with an interested pro bono partner.
As a small social enterprise, access to specialist property expertise would strengthen Luminary’s ability to manage the project effectively and help maximise the long-term social impact of the new site.

About the organisation
Luminary is an award-winning charity and social enterprise supporting women who have experienced gender-based violence, homelessness, poverty and multiple disadvantage.
Since 2014, it has used baking as a route into skills, confidence and employment. Its programmes combine practical and accredited training with work experience, mentoring and paid employment opportunities, helping women build greater independence and move towards sustainable employment.
Luminary currently operates a bakery and café in Stoke Newington, Hackney. Its social enterprise model also generates income that supports its charitable programmes.
Many of the women it works with have experienced homelessness or housing insecurity alongside abuse, poverty and exclusion. By supporting women into employment and greater financial independence, Luminary aims to build long-term stability and reduce some of the factors that contribute to homelessness.
