Depaul UK

Depaul UK is a youth homelessness charity that provides accommodation and support services for some of the most vulnerable young people (primarily aged 16-25 years) in the UK whose wellbeing and futures have been affected by homelessness.

Cost of the project

£100,000

Location

Didsbury, Manchester, UK

The project:

Safestop is a high needs supported accommodation house in Didsbury, Manchester. Safestop works closely with the local authority to support young people that other providers will not take. Before arriving at Safestop, young people have often experienced challenging circumstances such as family breakdown, substance abuse, financial problems or health issues. Prior to Safestop, many have been rough sleeping or sofa-surfing, putting them at risk of abuse or exploitation.

The impact:

The £100,000 grant from LandAid will help to refurbish Safestop into a ‘psychologically informed’ environment, with 11 private bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, and communal spaces. Currently the building is dated and worn, with an ‘institutional’ feel that can have a negative impact on wellbeing, especially those who have negative experiences of these kinds of environments. The refurbishment will provide a space that is modern, safe and supportive for those with past traumas.
