Emmanuel House receives strategic management support – Pro Bono

Through the LandAid Pro Bono Programme, Emmanuel House, a small homelessness charity in Nottingham, has secured strategic management support to future proof its plans and create a sustainable future for its operations in ending youth homelessness.

Location

Nottingham, UK

Founded in 1976, Emmanuel House is a small charity providing several contracts for Nottingham City Council, including a unique day support service for people who are homeless and vulnerable, with pathways to alleviate poverty and promoting independence. In 2022/2023, 4,252 people came through Emmanuel House’s services

Due to the huge influx of service users, the charity have to work to remain viable as a service for homeless people. They were eager to work on the sustainability of their service, along with identifying how to fully utilise their current space to support homeless people in the City. In addition to developing plans to convert their 2nd floor into emergency accommodation and securing funds of £360k to support the renovation, Denis Tully, CEO at Emmanuel House was keen to secure some management consultancy support to help with sustaining and strengthening the future of Emmanuel House and providing a legacy and an ongoing facility for homeless, vulnerable and destitute people in Nottingham.

The LandAid Pro Bono Programme secured the team with Renata Heranova, an independent consultant who could advise on change management and how to realise their ambitions. Renate was able to  review their business plan and advise on financial management and staffing structures as part of strategic succession planning and to establish more long-term sustainability.

I am very grateful to LandAid for brokering the volunteering support we received at Emmanuel House in Nottingham. Bluntly, if it wasn’t for Renata, the task would not have been done until much later.  In small organisations we don’t always have the resources to do what we know needs doing.  It has also been illuminating working from someone within very different sectors and in the same way as Renata has contributed to Emmanuel House, so the insight she has gained from this work has also impacted on her.  We will certainly be approaching LandAid and their outstanding network of generous partners again in the future.
Denis Tully, CEO Emmanuel House
It was an amazing experience to learn about the initiative and history of Emmanuel House and the overall homeless situation in the Nottingham area. It was a pleasure to work with a leader like Denis, to better understand the support the UK can, and is providing to the homeless, as well as the initiatives and challenges the team faces on a day-to-day basis. I feel I understand more, and I am grateful for this opportunity.
