YMCA Surbiton is looking to bridge the financial gap faced by YMCA Surbiton residents who are ready to ‘move on’ to independent living but are unable to save for a rental deposit and/or provide basic household items (white goods, essential furniture).
The organisation is due to create a ‘moving on grant fund’ that will provide grants in the region of £1,000 per individual to enable residents to gain confidence and work towards independent living in the PRS (private rented sector).
Eligible residents for the funds will be those entering employment or on low incomes and experiencing financial hardship, and will receive tailored support over a bespoke period, depending on individual needs. Throughout this time, YMCA Housing and Support Officers will assist residents in budgeting, saving, and identifying suitable, affordable housing options. This ‘move on’ grant for residents will be paid by YMCA direct to landlords/suppliers.
With this grant from LandAid, YMCA Surbiton’s Move on fund will be able to benefit and empower young people to build sustainable futures and live independently within their communities.
