LandAid shares our response to the Governments new National Plan to End Homelessness
Each winter, diners across the UK add just £1 to their restaurant bill in support of StreetSmart, a campaign that transforms small gestures into significant change. LandAid powers this campaign because we know the connection to ending youth homelessness is clear.
LandAid and StreetSmart award grants totalling over £737,000 to 48 charities tackling youth homelessness across the UK. This will support nearly 1,200 young people on their journey out of homelessness towards a brighter and more stable future.
This month, LandAid joined other charities in a Parliamentary Day of Action, calling on the UK government to create a youth-chapter in their new cross-departmental strategy to end homelessness.
The StreetSmart campaign raises funds to tackle homelessness by collecting donations from diners at leading restaurants during the busy build up to Christmas. This time the initiative raised a staggering £1,027,000 all from £1 per table donations at over 600 restaurants that took part.
We are delighted that William Sieghart CBE, founder and Chair of StreetSmart, has joined the LandAid Patrons Network. We invited him to speak to us about StreetSmart, what the campaign means to him, and how LandAid’s supporters can help boost the fundraising campaign.
The grants will support over 40 charities and over 1,000 young people in London and hundreds more across the UK on their journey out of homelessness towards a brighter and more stable future.
Last night, supporters of the charity StreetSmart and LandAid gathered at Parrillian near London Bridge to mark an historic milestone for the annual fundraiser that tackles homelessness across the UK.
LandAid team members recently attended the National Youth Homelessness Conference in Coventry, alongside fellow organisations in the homelessness space. Read about the key takeaways from the day and how we can end youth homelessness together.
