An early morning mist was lingering on the pitch at Richmond Athletic Ground when the LandAid team pitched up for the annual National Surveyors Rugby Sevens competition on Sunday. Now in its 44th year, the tournament has become a major fixture in both the property and rugby 7s calendars, and is often attended by the rising stars of both fields.
Last Friday Liz, Laureen and Alex from the LandAid team paid a visit to Queens Park to meet with charity partner Avenues Youth Project, which was set up in 1979 to provide after-school activities for disadvantaged children and young people in the area. LandAid are providing a grant of £50,000 to help the Avenues Youth Project refurbish their centre, serving 400 young people per year.
Yesterday we attended the opening of the fantastic new Building Lives Training Academy in Tower Hamlets by the Business Secretary, the Rt Hon Vince Cable MP. Building Lives is an award-winning Community Interest Company (CIC) and registered Social Enterprise that delivers construction apprenticeships for young people in London.
LandAid has been in Cannes this week, where we launched the Reboot Run sponsored by DTZ at MIPIM 2014, the international real estate show. At 7am on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 March, conference goers and LandAid supporters joined LandAid Chief Executive Joanna Averley and donned their lycra to participate in the 5km short course westward on Wednesday and eastward on Thursday from the DTZ Boat, the Bettina.
On 25 October 2013, LandAid was delighted to attend a charity lunch at the Prince's Trust Fairbridge Programme in Hackney to see first-hand the positive changes that funding from LandAid has brought to the centre. Sally Robinson, Charity Administration Officer, went along and here is her report.
With at least 119 offices from 48 companies across the UK property industry taking part in LandAid Day we estimate around 3,000 people took part in #LandAid Day 2013 - Mission Possible. Add companies who had teams in the LandAid Day Abseil and the Treasure Hunt, and 67 companies were involved.
