About the Organisation

www.aberdeenfoyer.com

Aberdeen Foyer is on a mission to end youth homelessness and prevent and alleviate the impact of poverty on young people and adults across northeast Scotland. They exist to create positive and lasting change working alongside people experiencing tough life challenges and the wider system to address and prevent the root causes of poverty and youth homelessness across local communities in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Their vision is for people to thrive, feel connected and included in their community, where everyone has a safe, decent place to call home and access to resources to live a good life.

They support people to build confidence and self-awareness, ensuring access to opportunities and resources they might need to achieve their goals in life, find their purpose and feel valued.  They understand the importance of community, of having a sense of belonging and solidarity with others as a way of developing self-esteem and have built this into their range of learning programmes and ways of working across our services.

They provide a variety of integrated programmes and services which combine to provide wraparound support for young people and adults around 5 key areas:

  • Youth Housing
  • Learning
  • Employability
  • Psychology/Counselling
  • Community

They are looking for pro bono support in the repurposing of a large unused space within the Aberdeen Foyer Marywell centre. The area consists of three rooms and a corridor, previously configured as a music studio. They envision a flexible and accessible space that can accommodate various wellbeing activities for young people.

To advance this initiative, they require an evaluation of the existing structure and guidance on potential modifications.

Specifically, they need professional input on:

  1. The structural integrity and condition of the current space to be able to estimate of the level of work required and a preliminary cost analysis.
  2. Architectural support to assess the feasibility of design modifications, including the potential extension into the adjacent smoking area.
