About the Organisation
Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid (BCWA) is a domestic abuse charity and a registered social housing provider. Started by volunteers in 1975, community is at the core of BCWA’s values. They aim to empower anyone suffering domestic abuse so they can make informed choices about their future and our mission is to end domestic abuse in our community.
Their services are confidential, non-judgmental and respectful of diversity. They include safe accommodation (refuge and move-on housing), community outreach, a one-stop-shop, an IDVA service for high-risk clients, child therapeutic services, in-house counselling, support for ethnically diverse women and those with no recourse to public funds, support groups and a young people’s service.
They are also committed to prevention and early intervention with community-based talks, training, and programmes in primary and secondary schools.
During the financial year ending March 2024, BCWA supported 3628 women and children suffering domestic abuse.

Thanks to a funding opportunity via the GLA, Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid are currently scoping a project to purchase accessible homes for survivors of domestic abuse. They have identified the best way forward is to purchase existing housing stock and then convert /adapt them to meet accessibility requirements.
BCWA are in the early stages of the project which they estimate will cost over £1m. Depending on stock availability they would like to purchase a large property to then be converted into either:
- A communal accessible refuge for 4 to 6 victims of domestic abuse.
- Or 4 standalone dispersed properties (dependent on costs)
BCWA would therefore love to work closely with a partner to help with any, or all of the following:
- Identifying suitable properties
- Offering a Level 2 Homebuyers survey on properties
- Property valuations
- HMLR Registration of purchase, general conveyancing surveys
