About the Organisation
HYELM was established in 1926 to provide affordable housing and a sense of community to young employees of limited means in London. Almost 100 years later, HYELM still provides affordable accommodation at 50-80% of market rates to 125 young, working people approximately 50% of whom are keyworkers.
HYELM house people between 18-35 at the start of their careers to provide high quality, stable housing and a sense of community. All 125 units are within our Old Street site, built in 2011 to a high specification. There are resident facilities and welcoming communal spaces to socialise and regular social activities as requested by our residents. We link in with and promote helpful resources and networks and provide access to a resident wellbeing service for support, advice and guidance in a range of areas including emotional wellbeing through to financial planning.
Residents live at HYELM for up to 5 years, allowing them enough time to establish their careers and plan their future housing. Among our residents are key workers providing vital services in London including teachers, nursing and medical staff, doctors, police officers and other vital sectors such legal services, further education, legal, Science and tech, Local Authority and construction.
Our key outcomes are to maintain affordable rent levels, to reach and house our target resident group, for residents to have successful tenancies with us, and to foster a HYELM community.

HYELM currently own an undeveloped site in North London, that is now demolished: Imperial House, The Hyde, NW9 5AL.
Purchased in 2018, and previously planned for development, this site is no longer viable for HYELM and they wish to dispose of this land, to fund future development. The site extends to 0.4 hectares in size and has planning permission for the development 102 dwellings.
The organisation would therefore benefit from some pro bono support to carry out a re-valuation of the site ready for sale.
