About the Organisation
The Avon Centre is a sanctuary of connection with horses and nature, nestled on the outskirts of Bristol. For over 40 years, it has been a lifeline for disabled and disadvantaged individuals, opening the door to the transformative power of nature and equestrian therapy for communities across the city and beyond.
Spending time with horses and immersing oneself in nature is proven to deliver profound physical and mental health benefits—benefits that the Avon Centre is passionate about making accessible to all.
Having started as an RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association) Centre, the charity has evolved its mission to reach even more people. Alongside its thriving RDA group, the Avon Centre now offers unmounted therapeutic sessions with its gentle Shetland ponies and actively engages with disadvantaged communities. These expanded services ensure that more individuals can experience the healing power of horses and nature, fostering well-being, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

The Avon Centre is thrilled to have received a grant from the council to improve the accessibility of its property. However, while this grant is a significant boost, it does not cover the full cost of the work required, and additional surveys are needed to move the project forward. To complete the accessibility upgrades, several critical surveys and consultations have been recommended by the architect, including:
- M&E / Energy consultant (RIBA Stages 4–7)
- Cost consultant (RIBA Stages 4–7)
- Structural consultant (RIBA Stages 3–7)
- Building Regulation Approver (RIBA Stages 4–7)
- Measured survey of the building
- Underground drainage survey
- Physical investigations into the existing structure
These surveys are essential for ensuring the upgrades meet the required standards and provide the best possible environment for those who rely on the centre’s services.
So the charity would benefit on some pro bono support to conduct the aforementioned surveys above.
