About the Organisation
James’ Place saves the lives of men in suicidal crisis. It is a charity that offers free, life-saving treatment to suicidal men at its centres in Liverpool, London, and Newcastle.
James’ Place stops men from dying by suicide. Its professional therapists quickly get to the heart of a man’s suicidal crisis and help him resolve it. The charity is unique because its treatment is proven to work, is quick to access, and is delivered in a safe, friendly, non-clinical environment by trained, professional therapists.
Since 2018, James’ Place has treated over 3,100 suicidal men.
Request details:
Due to the increasing demand for its services, the James’ Place Liverpool team has grown significantly over the past 12 months. However, the current office space is no longer fit for purpose, and the charity is therefore seeking pro bono architectural support to help develop an unused area of the building. This space is located in the basement of a 4-story Georgian building, which is a listed building and receives very little natural light. James’ Place is seeking architect support to help design this new space.
Design Requirements to include:
- Natural light
- A co-working space
- A break-out space
- At least one confidential room (two if possible), ensuring the rooms are soundproof
- A downstairs toilet (if space allows)
- A warm, welcoming space that matches the feel of the rest of the centre
Current/potential issues to consider:
- Limited lighting
- Dampness and the space becoming cold easily
- Original stone flooring
- The building’s listed status
Documents for the building can be found:
