About the Organisation

Cantley Village Hall stands on a one-acre plot of land, gifted to trustees in 1931 to serve as a reading room and social club for the residents of Cantley and surrounding villages within a six-mile radius. Soon after, the hall was built and has remained a central part of community life — hosting a wide range of social, cultural, and recreational activities for generations.

Today, the trustees are working to transform the Village Hall into a vibrant, inclusive hub where more people can access vital services and fully engage in community life.

A Sports Hall The new hall will offer much-needed space for physical activity. Pupils from Cantley Primary School will use it for PE lessons, while local residents will have the opportunity to run and attend sports clubs, fitness sessions, and exercise classes.

A Clinical Space Given Cantley’s rural location, access to healthcare can be limited. The redesigned hall will include clinical rooms, allowing visiting professionals to offer health clinics and bring essential services directly into the village.

A Nature Base The Village Hall will also become a hub for nature-focused wellbeing. It will serve as a starting point for community walks, birdwatching, and other outdoor activities that support both mental and physical health by encouraging connection with the natural environment.

This vision both honours the hall’s historic role and adapts it to meet the evolving needs of the community — ensuring it continues to be a welcoming and supportive space for all.

Request details:

Maintaining the current Village Hall has become unsustainable, and the trustees have received planning permission for a new Village Hall, which will include enhanced recreational, social, and healthcare facilities for local use.

The land, approximately one acre, was transferred to the trustees of Cantley Village Hall and their successors. The trustees are committed to maintaining this communal asset for Cantley and surrounding villages. The property was valued at £120,000 two years ago, and planning permission has been granted for a new hall.

However, the land has not been registered with HM Land Registry, which is now necessary to protect its long-term interests. Despite attempts to complete the registration, the trustees have found the process complicated due to legal terminology and require assistance in submitting the application.

They are therefore seeking pro bono support to complete the land registration process.
